Requirements 

People who want to apply are expected to meet the following qualifications:  

  • Good, working knowledge of English, including speaking, writing, and comprehension.
  • Further language ability desired
  • Minimum age of 20 years
  • Have a personal relationship with Christ

Strong character traits, including:

  • Psychological and emotional stability
  • Adaptability
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle stress
  • Honesty and integrity
  • Intercultural competence
  • Willingness to complete tasks without complaining or arguing
  • Willingness to submit to the decisions of the team leader
  • Capacity for teamwork
  • Ability to live and work in a multicultural team under difficult conditions
  • Physical fitness
  • Availability upon short notice
  • Readiness to go to a disaster area for a period of at least 3 weeks (preferably longer)
  • Stable and supportive personal environment

DART roles

During a mission, each team member is tasked with different responsibilities within the team. We are looking for people who can fill the following roles within DART (for detailed information, click on role):

  • Leadership - responsible for the DART team and fulfillment of the mission plan
  • Accounting - responsible for all finances and receipts
  • Aid Distribution - organizes and supervise distribution of goods
  • Communication - gathers information, take photos, write reports
  • Spiritual Guidance - cares for the spiritual health of the DART team
  • WASH Coordination - trained in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene
  • Logistics Coordination - coordinates container shipments, responsible for storage and tracking of goods
  • Construction Coordination - responsible for coordination of workers, tools, site, project
  • First Aid - cares for health of DART team
  • Medical Coordination - coordinates all activities of visiting medical/trauma experts
  • Staff Care - responsible for care and coordination of DART team as well as incoming teams/volunteers/experts
  • IT - responsible for set-up and maintenance of all IT equipment (computers, printers, satellite phones, etc)
  • Equipment Coordination - responsible for set-up and maintenance of all other equipment (DART vehicles, camping gear, generators etc)

Attend the training and become a disaster relief worker

During the DART training, it is our goal to provide real-life situations and enable real-life responses. This is why we do not want to give away too much of the schedule. Come prepared for an intensive week of theoretical instruction and practical application. And be ready to participate fully and enthusiastically. DART training is intensive, challenging, and rewarding.

During the course of the training you will learn about:

  • GAiN history, vision and values
  • The origins and implementation of DART
  • DART roles and practical tools with which to fulfill those roles
  • Foundational professional principles of disaster response and humanitarian aid
  • Teamwork, conflict resolution and being led/following well, intercultural awareness, communication, and challenges

Financially

Financial contributions are needed to train, send, and sustain DART members, as well as maintain the extensive inventory of DART equipment. Finances are also used to transport materials to the disaster-affected area.

Donations can be made through your local GAiN office and made out to DART. All donations are tax-deductible.
